Variaciones sobre León / Variations on Leon

A Spanish in Tangier / Un hispánico en Tánger

To little distance of Europe, through the Straits of Gibraltar, we can give a jump to a new continent, to another country, another culture. We happened through a species of tunnel of the time and penetrated in another world, with another one tempo. Perhaps only the tourists prevent our vision. Tangier is a commercial city, finessed of positions by its streets. In some zones, even, we found merchants distributed by unions. Each man, a commerce. The price can be haggled. What difference with department store, where the salesman is a mere piece of the gear, a bust talking! The customs of Tariff towards Tangier will take us universe to a different, in spite of the physical proximity. It seems that Guzmán the Good one watches to us with distrust. But in spite of centuries of confrontation, it is necessary to bet decidedly by the dialogue. A blue sea and um bluer sky. The white houses, capriciously arranged, remember Andalusia to us, where the Islamic track, of course, has not disappeared. Some signboards in Spanish remember the recent Spanish presence to us by these territories of the north of Morocco. The sea separates and unites. The mosques aim at the sky with their towers, and Tangier welcomes to us, open, with its magnificent port. A hand friend teaches some zones to us of the city, but it must leave to us because she is not official guide... But its hand salutes to us next to stairs. Many children in Tangier, playing, or of the hand of its mothers. Children and children: life. Some they request something to us. Like those girls, to whom we give pistachos them, that gather lavishly and they pay to us with its innocent smile. The dress of the women is almost diverse than it exists with our culture, in which the shame seems a past category. But Tangier is, mainly, a wonderful sky conjunction, sea, white house, vegetation and hubbub. Frequently we remembered the Grenade quartet Albayzín. Why it will be that the sea does not exhaust in its blue immensity? Also Rome is made present. There it left his track. Boys and girls, men and women show themselves to the Straits and watch the horizon. The children, in arms of their mothers, do not take veil, and they let contemplate his infantile beauty to us. The marine experience is not despicable. The sea shows its immensity to us, connects of the Atlantic, with the Mediterranean. Atlantic that takes its name of mounts of Morocco. The sea is majestic, much more that from the beach. The travellers prepare themselves to contemplate it, watching together in a same direction, that is perhaps the best definition of the friendship. The feminine veils contrast with the western makeups. The boy, who happens through the arc that, started off, accelerates our perception of the movement. The eyes of the girl who requests pistachos to us nail to us in the seat. The girl who arranges itself to cover with a handkerchief her head, watches towards Europe. Bond plus the pain to see Tánger that speak of her.
